Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou will call for a vote of confidence and a government reshuffle on Thursday, a day after a general strike paralysed the country and new warnings that Greece risks defaulting on its debts.

Whatever happens next this is the greatest success for the anti-austerity opposition in Europe so far. The test will be the policies of any new government, however, and not its head.
