is hitting stores on Oct. 14 and preorders will begin on Oct. 7.
The price? Just like the looks of the iPhone 4S, the price will match the iPhone 4. An iPhone 4S with 16-gigabytes of storage will sell for $199 and a 32-gigabyte model will cost $299.
One new item -- the iPhone 4S will add a new 64-gigabyte model selling at a price of $399.
The iPhone 4S feature we’re dying to try is Siri, a new voice-recognition and voice-synthesis system that’s tied in with expert-system analysis of what you say. You can ask Siri for information, such as recommendations for nearby restaurants or the current weather, or use it for dictation. It can speak to you and read items and documents.
With the launch of iPhone 4S also comes the launch of iOS 5, with over 200 new features; and iCloud, a set of free cloud services that work with an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC to automatically and wirelessly store users' content in iCloud and push it to all your devices.
The iPhone 4S's camera has an 8 megapixel sensor, up from 5 megapixels in the iPhone 4, and will perform better in low light and offer more vibrant colors.
"For many customers, the iPhone 4S will be the best camera … and video camera they've ever had, and they'll have it with them everywhere they go," said Apple senior vice-president Phil Schiller.
The 4S uses the same A5 chip found in the iPad2, so it offers 2X the processing speed and 7X the graphic performance of the existing iPhone. Apple has also tweaked the battery so the phone delivers eight hours of 3G talk time, ten hours of video watching, or forty hours of music.
Apple on Tuesday unveiled the iPhone 4S, a faster version of its best-selling smartphone that includes a virtual "personal assistant" you can talk to.
"When you think about it, only Apple could make such amazing software, hardware and services and bring them together into such a powerful yet integrated experience," the company's new CEO Tim Cook
